Our Story

The Vintage Peony Store was created in 2021.

My name is Liz and I am the furniture artist behind The Vintage Peony Store. My studio is based on the outskirts of Cambridge and my clients are UK-wide. I upcycle furniture and take on commissions (in both furniture and lampshade making) all in the name of promoting eco-chic sustainable interiors.

I had read about art therapy as a way to improve mental well-being after being ill for three years. After painting a set of vintage bedroom furniture for myself, I realised I could expand my new-found talent to breathe life into any piece of vintage furniture in turn saving it from landfill. Needless to say I fell in love with the process and progressed to also making hand made lampshades and cushions.

My business name was chosen as I adore peonies for their beautiful colour palette and delicate petals - they have that vintage air about them, which I love.

I upcycle my own pieces of vintage furniture for sale in addition to offering a bespoke commission service. Imagine owning that one unique piece of furniture that cannot be replicated, adorning your home in any variation of colour, tone, texture and style that belongs only to you.

The Vintage Peony Store can make those dreams a reality.

I am an art deco girl at heart. I love challenging myself to take inspiration from a wide range of artistic designs and available mediums. My favourite things are restoring old heavily varnished wood grain and using metallic paints and gilding waxes on stencil designs to bring that special piece to life with a little bit of glitz and glamour.

Who said old furniture couldn’t shine? We are predominantly an online business but I do offer workshops and classes in lampshade making. ‘Paint your own piece’ workshops coming soon!

I also attend local makers markets and adore meeting people to discuss exciting projects.

With paintbrush in hand or sat at my sewing machine making lampshades, I am very much in my happy place.

Thank you for taking the time to read my story. I look forward to hearing from you!
